PROTECTING YOURSELF FROM ID THEFT AND SCAMS IN THE WORKPLACE

As working professionals with advanced degrees we may have a false sense of security when it comes to ID theft and scams. We show up day after day to the safety of our “little corner of the working world” whether it be an 1,800 sq. ft. dental practice or shared space within a dental practice. "New" Address of Record 

During the 54th Legislature, first regular session 2019, Senate bill 1062 amended A.R.S. §32-3226 to allow licensees, who choose their residential address as their address of record, to opt out of the public disclosure of their address of record.  For your convenience, additional information regarding this law can be found by reading A.R.S. § 32-3226. Please visit the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners’ website and complete the Address Change Form to opt out of the public disclosure of your address of record if you have chosen your residential address as your address of record.

Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances

Beginning January 1, 2020, a Schedule II controlled substance that is an opioid may be dispensed only with an electronic prescription order as prescribed by federal law or regulation. This means that Schedule II opioid prescriptions will not be dispensed by a written prescription. Please visit the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy's website for more information. Board Mission

To provide professional, courteous service and information to the dental profession and the general public through the examination, licensure and the complaint adjudication and enforcement processes; to protect the oral health, safety and welfare of Arizona citizens through a fair and impartial system.

What We Do

The Board examines and licenses individuals who provide dental services.  The Board also accepts complaints against licensed and unlicensed individuals, investigates allegations and takes disciplinary actions for violations of law. The Board oversees approximately 8,400 licensees practicing in the state and serves all Arizona citizens who receive dental services.

Updates

Renewal Fee Waiver

Enacted Session Law Sec. 11 State Board of Dental Examiners; renewal fee waiver; delayed repeal.

A. The State Board of Dental Examiners shall provide a one-time waiver from license renewal fees for dentists, denturists and dental hygienists who are licensed in this state before January 1, 2018.

B. The one-time waiver provided in subsection A of this section is effective for licenses renewing in calendar years 2018, 2019 and 2020.

C. This section is repealed from and after December 31, 2020.

Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program Mandate - The mandate to utilize the Prescription Monitoring Program went into effect October 16, 2017. Dentists in Arizona are required to access Arizona's Controlled Substance Prescription Monitoring Program before prescribing a controlled substance to any patient.

Governor's Regulatory Review Council (GRRC) - Pursuant to Arizona Revised Statutes ("A.R.S.") §  41-1033, any person may file a petition with the GRRC for review of a final rule based on the person's belief that the final rule does not meet the requirements of A.R.S. § 41-1030. A person may also petition the GRRC to request review of an existing agency practice, substantive policy statement, final rule or regulatory requirement that is not specifically authorized by statute pursuant to Title 32 based on the person's belief that the existing agency practice, substantive policy statement, final rule or regulatory licensing requirement is unduly burdensome or is not demonstrated to specifically fulfill a public health, safety or welfare concern.

5,464 Dentists - a 5.5% increase from this date a year ago.
5,124 Dental Hygienists - a 5.9% increase from this date a year ago.
12 Denturists - no increase/decrease from this date a year ago.
356 Business Entities - a 4% decrease from this date a year ago.

Controlled Substances

The Controlled Substances Prescription Monitoring Program (CSPMP) is a program developed to promote the public health and welfare by detecting diversion, abuse and misuse of prescription medications classified as controlled substances under the Arizona Uniform Controlled Substances Act.  Every dentist who possesses a DEA registration is required to also possess a CSPMP registration issued by the Arizona Board of Pharmacy.


The mandate to utilize the PMP goes into effect October 16, 2017. Dentists in Arizona are required to access Arizona's CSPMP before prescribing a controlled substance to any patient.  Click here to review the usage mandate.
